K-Beauty Grooming Guide
Korean men’s skincare is no longer considered a special beauty interest. It has become a natural part of self-care culture focused on reducing acne, enlarged pores, excess oil, and shaving irritation.
Common Korean Men’s
Skin Concerns
From teenage acne to middle-aged hydration and anti-aging care, Korean men’s skincare is about looking clean, healthy, and well-managed.
Beauty
There are three adult men in my family: my husband, my older son in his 30s, and my younger son in his 20s.
What is interesting is that all three care about skincare, but each focuses on different concerns. My husband cares most about hydration. My older son is interested in blackheads, pores, and oil control. My younger son pays the most attention to skin tone and shininess, so he always carries oil blotting paper in his pocket.

The most passionate one is actually my younger son. One day I bought him a Madeca cream, and later he bought the same Madeca cream for me as a birthday gift. It is known in Korea for helping with dark spots, uneven skin tone, and overall skin clarity.

Why Has Korean Men’s Skincare Become a Natural Culture?
In the past, skincare and esthetic treatments were often considered women-centered beauty culture. But at some point, more men began caring about skincare — from teenage students and college students to office workers in their 30s and middle-aged men.
At some point, I started noticing young men naturally wearing light makeup on the streets. Watching that made me think Korean men had already come out carrying the beauty flag.
In Korea, clean and healthy-looking skin is considered an important part of making a good impression. Job interviews, office life, blind dates, and even social media photo culture all influence this trend. Korean men’s skincare has now become part of basic self-management.
However, the kind of skincare Korean men want is slightly different from glamorous makeup. Most prefer natural and clean-looking skin rather than heavy makeup. Looking healthy, less tired, and less oily is usually the realistic goal.
10 Most Common Concerns in Korean Men’s Skincare
The skincare concerns Korean men focus on are more practical than people may expect. Rather than dramatic beauty transformations, most simply want to solve the problems that bother them every day when they look in the mirror.

1. Acne and Skin Troubles
One of the most common concerns among teenage boys and men in their 20s and 30s is acne and skin trouble. Breakouts around the jawline, cheeks, and forehead are often connected to stress, lack of sleep, oil production, and shaving irritation.
2. Excess Oil and Shininess
Men’s skin tends to produce more sebum, so the forehead and nose often become shiny by the afternoon. This is exactly why my younger son always carries oil blotting paper with him.
3. Enlarged Pores and Blackheads
Blackheads around the nose and enlarged pores are another major concern for many men. My older son is especially interested in products and routines related to pore and sebum care.
4. Shaving Irritation
Men who shave frequently often experience redness, stinging, cuts, and acne around the chin area. Because of this, soothing care and hydration after shaving are important parts of men’s skincare.
5. Odor and Cleanliness
When people think of skincare, they often think only about the face. But many men also care about body odor, scalp odor, and oil-related smells. That is why body wash, deodorant, and scalp shampoo are also important parts of men’s grooming culture.
6. Dull Skin Tone
When the skin looks dull, a person can appear tired or older. Because of this, many men in their 20s and 30s use tone-up sunscreen, BB cream, or cushion products to naturally improve their skin tone.
7. Dryness and Lack of Moisture
One concern especially common among middle-aged men is dryness. My husband also looks for hydration first when choosing skincare products. As people age, the skin becomes drier and loses elasticity more easily.
8. Loss of Elasticity and Wrinkles
After the age of 40, concerns about wrinkles, sagging skin, and elasticity become more important. At this stage, men often become interested in lifting care, skin regeneration, and functional anti-aging creams.
9. Sensitive Skin
Many men experience redness and irritation due to shaving, seasonal changes, masks, or strong cleansers. In these cases, soothing and moisturizing care are usually more important than harsh products.
10. Hair Loss and Scalp Care
Hair loss and receding hairlines are very realistic concerns for men after their 30s. Recently, more men are combining facial skincare with scalp care, head spa treatments, and hair-loss management.

Korean men’s skincare interests change naturally depending on age. Teenagers often focus on acne and oil, men in their 20s care about tone and first impressions, men in their 30s begin noticing pores and fatigue, and middle-aged men usually prioritize hydration, elasticity, and wrinkles.

Teenage boys focus mainly on acne and oil control. They commonly use basic products such as cleansing foam, acne patches, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
Men in their 20s are probably the center of Korean men’s skincare culture. Blind dates, job hunting, social media, and photography all make skin tone and texture important concerns.
Men in their 30s often worry about tired-looking skin, enlarged pores, and dullness caused by work stress and busy lifestyles. At this stage, many become interested in functional creams, eye creams, and anti-aging products.
Men in their 40s and 50s tend to focus more on hydration, elasticity, wrinkles, and scalp care. My husband also values moisturizing products much more now than when he was younger.
Do Korean Men Really Use BB Cream and Cushion Makeup?
One interesting part of Korean men’s skincare culture is the use of men’s BB creams and cushion products. Recently, many Korean men use BB creams, tone-up sunscreens, and cushions that naturally improve skin tone.

Men in their 20s and 30s especially use these products before important meetings, blind dates, interviews, or photo shoots.
Even my husband used BB cream occasionally in his 40s before important meetings or on days with long sun exposure. Now that he is in his early 50s, he only uses it sometimes.
Korean men’s efforts toward skincare can also be seen in the increasing use of sunscreen. BB creams and tone-up products are no longer considered unusual products for men.
There may still be differences between manual labor workers and white-collar professionals, but among office workers and men who frequently meet people, sunscreen and light skin-correction products have become fairly familiar grooming tools.
For many Korean men, BB cream feels less like “makeup” and more like “a tool for making the skin look clean and neat.”
What Treatments Do Korean Men Receive at Skincare Shops?

At Korean men’s skincare shops, treatments usually include cleansing, steaming, blackhead extraction, soothing ampoules, LED care, and hydrating masks.
First, cleansing removes dirt and impurities from the skin surface. Steam treatment then softens and opens the pores. After that, blackheads and excess sebum are extracted, followed by soothing or moisturizing ampoules depending on the skin condition. Some treatments finish with LED therapy, modeling masks, or hydration packs.
For acne-prone skin, treatments focus on calming redness and irritation. For pore and oil concerns, the main goal is often cleaning the T-zone and smoothing the skin texture.
Most treatments usually take around 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the skin condition and program.
How Much Does Korean Men’s Skincare Cost?

The cost of Korean men’s skincare depends on the location, treatment style, and skin condition. A basic esthetic treatment usually costs around 50,000 to 150,000 KRW per session.
If dermatology procedures, lifting treatments, lasers, or regeneration care are included, the price can become much higher. On the other hand, basic hydration and soothing programs are relatively affordable.
Where Can You Find Korean Men’s Skincare Shops?
In Korea, men’s skincare shops are mainly concentrated in Seoul and the surrounding metropolitan area. Areas such as Gangnam, Gwanghwamun, Nowon, Yangjae, Suwon, Gimpo, and Gwanggyo all have shops offering men’s skincare, waxing, scalp care, and body care.
For men trying skincare for the first time, male-only shops or private treatment rooms may feel more comfortable than general esthetic salons with mostly female customers. Many programs are specifically designed for common male concerns such as pores, blackheads, shaving irritation, scalp care, and oil control.

The Shiz Clinic men’s program focuses on medical-style skincare treatments for pores, oil control, and wrinkles. It may suit men looking for clinic-based skincare rather than general esthetic care.

Dawa Men’s Total Beauty in Gwanggyo, Suwon, is introduced as a men’s total beauty shop offering skincare, waxing, and head spa services. It may suit men interested in both facial and scalp care.
There are actually many men’s skincare shops operating across Korea now. Personally, I think Korean men’s skincare content and related businesses will continue growing in the future.

In Korea, it is very normal for men to use skincare products and look for products that suit them in places like Olive Young or skincare shops. Overseas, many people wonder, “How do Korean men have such good skin?”

The core of Korean men’s skincare is not about excessive beauty or heavy makeup. It is about looking naturally clean, less oily, less irritated after shaving, and less tired overall.
