Yangpyeong is close enough for an easy getaway from Seoul, yet the atmosphere feels completely different. Rivers, mountains, quiet villages, and old local restaurants create a slower and more peaceful Korean experience.

What I especially love about Yangpyeong is that it still feels local.
Small countryside restaurants, old neighborhood streets, humble Korean meals, and peaceful scenery. It may not be flashy, but that’s exactly why I like it.

Many Korean travelers also love Yangpyeong. Photographers visit often, and younger travelers come for SNS photos and healing trips. Places like Dumulmeori are famous because almost every corner looks beautiful in photos.

Yangpyeong is close to Seoul by train, but the atmosphere feels completely different.

I personally visit Yangpyeong whenever I want to relax a little. Every season feels different here.

There is one small problem though… traffic. Haha.

On weekends, roads can become very crowded with tourists from Seoul and other regions. That’s why I recommend visiting on weekdays if possible.

But even weekdays are not completely empty. Korean tour buses also visit often.

Still, compared to weekends, weekdays are definitely more comfortable.

The real charm of Yangpyeong is not only the tourist spots. It’s also the old local restaurants where residents actually eat.

Simple countryside meals, homemade side dishes, and warm local 분위기. Those places feel much more “Korean” to me.

Uni’s blog usually prefers local restaurants over famous tourist restaurants. Famous places already have plenty of reviews online. I prefer introducing places that still feel authentic and local.

Where to Stay in Yangpyeong

For foreign travelers, I recommend staying near Yangpyeong Station.

Yangpyeong Station sits roughly between Yangsu Station and Yongmun Station, making transportation much easier for this itinerary.

On Day 1, you can easily visit Dumulmeori and Semiwon.
On Day 2, it’s convenient for heading toward Yongmunsan.

If you’re traveling as a couple or family, Korean pensions are also a great experience.

Many Koreans visit Yangpyeong for 1-night or 2-night pension trips. You can enjoy BBQ at night, relax quietly, and walk around nearby rivers or countryside roads in the morning.

And unlike before, there are also pensions near train stations now, so staying without a rental car is absolutely possible.

Even if the budget becomes slightly higher, experiencing a Korean pension can be part of the fun, right?

Dumulmeori is where the Bukhangang River and Namhangang River meet.

The name literally means “the head of two waters.”

For foreign travelers, Dumulmeori is a wonderful place to experience Korea’s quiet countryside scenery beyond the busy city atmosphere of Seoul.

And if you visit Dumulmeori, there’s one thing you absolutely should try.

The batter contains lotus leaf powder, which makes the texture slightly chewy and unique.

Honestly? It’s not necessarily the greatest hotdog in the world. Haha.

But it’s become a symbolic snack of Yangpyeong. I even stood in a long line once just to try it.

If you visit Dumulmeori, I think it’s worth trying at least once.

After walking around Dumulmeori and Semiwon, it’s time for lunch.

Honestly, the name itself already sounds peaceful.

Semiwon feels elegant, calm, and healing all at once. Forest paths, small streams, lotus ponds, and gardens create a relaxing atmosphere.

The place is actually larger than many people expect. If you slowly walk through everything, you’ll spend quite a bit of time there.

Summer lotus season is especially beautiful.

After Semiwon, it’s time to move to The Greem.

Semiwon → The Greem Transportation

You can choose either:

Taxi, Bus

Taxi is faster and more convenient.

But buses take you through quiet countryside roads and local villages. The ride takes longer, but honestly, that can also become part of the experience.

If you have extra time, I actually think the bus ride can be enjoyable too.

The Greem: A Garden Café Experience

The Greem is not just a café.

It feels more like a small European-style garden mixed with a botanical park.

Couples and families love this place because of the beautiful gardens and many photo spots.

There are waterfalls, pine trees, flowers, and cute little pathways everywhere.

If you enjoy taking photos, this place is honestly pretty satisfying.

Just try to visit before sunset because the gardens look much better during daylight hours.

Weekends can become crowded, so weekdays are definitely better if possible.

There is an admission fee for The Green, but the ticket can be exchanged for a drink at the café. As of the latest information, admission is 10,000 KRW for adults and 8,000 KRW for children.

So instead of thinking of it as just paying to enter a café, it feels more like paying for a garden walk, photo spots, and a drink together.

Dinner Recommendations

After visiting The Greem, Uni recommends returning to Yangpyeong town for dinner.

It is a good idea to have a warm local breakfast near Yangsu Station before heading to Yongmunsan.

Hwangtae Village is famous for its light and refreshing Korean-style breakfasts, such as pollack soup and grilled pollack. A warm bowl of pollack soup is particularly comforting to the stomach when eaten in the morning, and it takes about 7 to 10 minutes to walk there from Yangsu Station.

Another recommended restaurant is Yangpyeong Haejangguk. This place is famous for its pig meat soup, offal soup, and pollack soup. The broth is rich yet clean, making it enjoyable even for foreign travelers.

Yongmunsan: Peaceful Mountain Walking

Yongmunsan is one of Yangpyeong’s representative natural attractions.

Of course, there are proper hiking trails, but honestly, my preference is closer to leisurely strolling than serious hiking. Haha.

The mountain paths are comfortable, suitable for family travelers, and peaceful. It is closer to a leisurely walk than a strenuous hike.
